SDRC Receives $2.2 Million Metaphase® Order from Thiokol Propulsion

Thiokol transitions from Sherpa® to Metaphase

CINCINNATI-January 12, 2001-SDRC (Nasdaq: SDRC), a global supplier of e-business collaboration solutions for the product lifecycle, today announced that Thiokol Propulsion has placed a $2.2 million order with SDRC to transition from Sherpa's® PDM system to SDRC's product knowledge management (PKM) solution, Metaphase®. Thiokol Propulsion, located in Brigham City, UT, is an Alcoa business, and is the leading manufacturer of solid propulsion systems for space and defense. Thiokol leveraged their investment in Sherpa by migrating from Sherpa to Metaphase in 2000.

As part of its transition to Metaphase, Thiokol is implementing SDRC's out-of-the-box solutions for document and change management, MetaDM and MetaChange. Thiokol estimates that it will save over $1 million in implementation and development costs. Over the next year, Thiokol is deploying Metaphase at three Thiokol sites - Brigham City, UT, Elkton, MD, and Huntsville, AL - in a federated environment.

Thiokol Propulsion has stringent mission critical needs for product lifecycle management concerning aerospace product and service reliability. SDRC's Metaphase solution provided the unique combination of depth of product capabilities, proof of production worthiness and reliability. Thiokol is using Metaphase to improve its current collaboration with NASA and many other customers, suppliers and partners.

"SDRC's Metaphase is the PKM solution of choice for addressing the very complex, mission critical needs of industry leaders like Thiokol," said Bill Weyand, chairman and CEO, SDRC. "We are pleased that Thiokol has expanded its partnership with SDRC by choosing to transition from Sherpa to Metaphase. SDRC continues to strengthen its market-leading penetration into the aerospace industry by packaging best practices drawn from its numerous aerospace implementations and leveraging them in meeting the needs of both existing and new customers."
